Obviously the amount of juice in an apple is very small so apple juice is used to supplement this. We all know the saying 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away' and you could use this shake as your 'apple'. One thing about using real apple in a protein drink is that if you leave the skin on it gives the shake a little more bitterness and a different texture (not as nice as if you peel it). Having said that, there are good reasons to keep the skin on your apple when you throw it in the blender. The skin is packed with lots of nutrients that lower cholestoral and all sorts.
