Cottage cheese is a great source of extra protein and you don’t need to worry about fat content as it is very low. One thing you might worry about though is the flavor.

Seriously, Cottage Cheese in Bodybuilding Shakes?!

Personally I can’t bring myself to eat cottage cheese by the spoon, it tastes pretty nasty and as much as I would like to force myself to eat for building muscle, I can’t quite bring myself to do it. Because of this I rarely use the stuff but I did try it and I know some people who swear it is an important food for muscle building. I've found the key is to hide the taste with other ingredients ;-). If you are like me, be sure to throw in a load of flavor enhancers to take the cottage cheese edge of your shakes - LOL
