Power lifting – The importance of exercise and protein

Being a power lifter especially in competition takes a lot of muscle and a lot of endurance. The main goal for a power lifter is to beat their own personal record every time they reach one. In other words every time you meet your goal you set another one and try to reach it. This of course takes tremendous muscle power and is not easy to do. It takes determination and a set schedule if you want to see your dreams of being a power lifter come true.

The first thing you need to remember when becoming a power lifter is to be patient. It’s not going to happen overnight. Some of the best power lifters trained for years before being ready for competition so settle in for the long haul if you are indeed serious.

Nutrition is a key step in getting where you want to be. A protein heavy diet is essential. As you probably already know power lifting works on building the size of each individual muscle so protein shakes, nutritional supplements such as Instant Oats and whey protein will go a long way towards helping you to reach your goal.

You need a regular training program if you are going to accomplish what you set out to do. Get into a routine whether it is working out twice a day or going to the gym a few times a week. Don’t vary from your schedule at all if it can be helped.

Spend a lot of your time on dumbbells but you also need to concentrate on squats, bench presses and dead lifts.

It is important to increase the amount you are lifting with every workout but not the extent that you injure yourself. Try adding 5 pounds at each workout building up gradually so that you don’t hurt yourself.

You have to work hard to become a power lifter but you don’t want to injure yourself in the process. Make sure that you do warm up exercises before every lifting session so you don’t end up with torn or pulled muscles or worse.
